As busy parents our days are filled to overflowing with play dates, work, blocked drains, school sport, doctors visits, PTA meetings and everything else in between.
Time is a fixed component. We cannot make more time and we cannot get it back once it’s gone. As parents we need to find a way to make our time more efficient and more effective so we can get on with the good stuff – quality time with family, friends and ourselves!
Top tips to turn your chaos into calm:
ORGANISE. Being organised will help you reduce stress, get clear, systemise and save time. Children learn from your example so make sure you teach them the skill of organisation by living it yourself. Being organised is not about being neat and tidy – it’s about being able to make quick decisions and find what your want quickly when you need it. Encourage your children to ‘sort out’ instead of always commanding them to ‘tidy up’.
DECLUTTER. Only keep items that you need, use or love – everything else is clutter and clutter is what gets in your way of reaching your goals. Look critically at your spaces and identify the areas that need de-cluttering. Excess clutter can be sold, tossed or donated.
GET HELP. Hire a professional organiser to help you simplify and systemise, use a garden service if you never find time to cut the lawn or find a reliable cleaning service for your housekeeping requirements. Outsourcing can go a long way to alleviate your time pressure.
SIMPLIFY. Tackle like tasks together and resist over-scheduling. Get into the habit of dealing with things as soon as they come into your space instead of putting them aside to handle later. Sure, critical tasks will require your full commitment, for everything else, learn to let go, delegate and say NO.
